Stingray, Lobster & Conch

Stingrays, conch and the spiny lobster are all part of the Bahamian sea life which are depicted on the Jr. Champ paddle. The Stingray is actually a fish most closely related to the shark.

The lobster as the name suggests has spines all over its bodies for protection from predators. Unlike the lobsters found off the shores of New England, this species does not have large pinching claws. As they mature they migrate offshore to the reefs along the island. The lobster like the conch are a seafood delicacy and staple in many Bahamas recipes.

The conch is a type of mollusk which lives in the shallow waters around the island. The conch shell is often made into horn which is blown on the island at sunset each day.
